GREAT DEAL OR "FEATHERED NEST"?

The specifications noted below describe what seems like a wonderful diamond at a great price.

If you consult the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) grading report below, however, the diagram at the left (the top view of the diamond) shows a thin line at the 4 o'clock position. The GIA, in its Key To Symbols, calls this thin line a "feather." If you look at the diagram on the right (the bottom view of the diamond), there's another "feather" at the 8 o'clock position.

A feather is a break in the diamond. If you view the diagrams as if they were two halves of a sandwich, when you close the "sandwich," these lines match up. This means there's a break in the diamond's edge that runs from top to bottom.

This is a huge durability issue and this diamond should not be purchased!
